The construction process can often be very confusing, especially to beginners and developers new to the area. To guide homeowners and builders through the process, a Permitting Guide has been developed and is available at the Township office. One of the most common questions asked of Township staff is in regard to what type of permit is needed for a project. There are basically two types of construction permits issued in Antis Township. These are the Assessment Permit and the Building Permit.
Simply put, the Assessment Permit is a construction permit and it is required for almost all construction with the exception of those projects that require inspection under the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). Building Permits, on the other hand, are issued for projects that are required to be inspected under the UCC. In both cases, construction may not begin until the permit is issued by the Township.
Often, the determining factor as to which permit is needed, has to do with the size and scope of the project. This is not a hard and fast rule. The only way to find out for sure is to complete an Application for Construction so that the Building Code Official can make the determination.
