2011 Fall Leaf Collection Schedules

 

NOTICE: Imprelis Ban

The Blair County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling has announced a ban on certain materials being accepted at the County’s two Compost Facilities. Residents are advised that it is unlawful to include in yard waste any materials that have been treated with, or may have been affected by, the herbicide Imprelis. The ban includes grass clippings, vegetable or flower plants, brush, billets, logs, etc., that are known to have been, or are suspected of having been subject to Imprelis contact.

The Blair County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling continually strives to provide high-quality compost as well as two different grinds of mulch to our customers, be they County residents or commercial entities.  Becaues of this, we appreciate your understanding of and cooperation with this ban. 

CITY OF ALTOONA

Bagged collection of leaves, vegetable & bedding plants begins , October 24 and ends November 23.

Collection Schedule: Monday, October 24 & 31; November 7, 14 & 21– JUNIATA, IVYSIDE, WEHNWOOD SOUTH TO 4^TH STREET; Tuesday, October 25; November 1, 8, 15 &22- 10^TH AVENUE TO CITY LINE BETWEEN 4^TH & 31^ST STREET; Wednesday, October 26; November 2, 9, 16 & 23 - ELDORADO/LLYSWEN, SOUTHWEST OF 31^ST STREET/UNION AVENUE; Thursday, October 27; November 3, 10, 17 & 28* - EAST END, PROSPECT, DUTCH HILL, TUCKAHOE PARK, PLEASANT VALLEY.

City of Altoona Collection Map

All yard waste (including tree branches, leaves and vegetation must be in paper leaf bags). The Altoona Highway Dept. crews cannot collect whole cut trees. In addition to curbside collection, the Altoona City Highway Yard will be open, Monday - Friday, 8AM - 2PM for yard waste drop-off through Tuesday, November 1. *City Hall will be closed on November 24 for Thanksgiving. Leaf collection will be Monday, November 28.

 

  HOLLIDAYSBURG BOROUGH

Leaf pick-up will take place on Mondays & Tuesdays beginning October 3 & 4 and continue through December 5 & 6. Crews will pick-up on the East side of Borough & East side of Penn Street every Monday. The West side of Borough & West side of Penn Street, Gaysport and Holliday Hills will be picked-up every Tuesday. Leaves, plant material, tree and brush trimmings and branches up to 3” in diameter and 6’ in length will be collected. Brush and branches must be bundled with string or twine. If items are missed, pick-up will occur the following week. Hollidaysburg Borough Highway Department, 696-0542.

  LOGAN TOWNSHIP

Township-wide leaf collections will begin on Wednesday, October 19 and end on Friday, December 2. The leaf vacuum and leaf collector will pick-up plant material, piled tree, brush trimmings and branches (up to 3” in diameter and 6’ in length). Material must be placed at curbside by Monday morning for collection. The entire township is usually collected at least once per week. Please rake leaves to the edge of property for pick-up or place leaves and other collection material in paper bags or piles along the public road for pick-up. Please make manageable brush piles.   TYRONE BOROUGH

Borough-wide leaf collections will occur every Monday starting October 3 through December 5. Only leaves and grass clippings will be collected. All yard waste must be placed in brown paper bags and set out at the curb for collection by 7 AM. Large limbs and branches will not be collected. Tyorne Borough Highway Department, 684-7333.

   

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP

Township-wide leaf collection will take place during the weeks of October 24 through November 14. There are no specific collection days. Leaves must be in large, brown paper bags at the curb. Allegheny Township Road Foreman, 695-5258.

 BLAIR TOWNSHIP

Township-wide curbside leaf collections will take place each week on Monday & Tuesdays beginning October 10 & 11 and continue through November 7 & 8. All yard waste must be in brown paper bags and placed at curbside. Blair Township Highway Department, 696-4363 ext. 106.
